Each month, we will speak to an athlete, celebrity, or non-Hip Hop entertainer about what Hip Hop means to them. This feature is intended to showcase how far-reaching the influence of Hip Hop culture has grown in the past 50 years and how much the culture means to so many.

This month, we spoke with David Ponte.

David Ponte is the Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of the music streaming platform Audiomack, an artist-first music platform that helps musicians reach and engage fans across the world.

Ponte, who co-founded Audiomack in 2012, is responsible for overseeing the Audiomack brand, perfecting the user experience, and all marketing and external communications worldwide.

So David Ponte, what does Hip-Hop mean to you?

“Hip Hop has impacted my life in countless positive ways since the very beginning—literally. Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” debuted the day I was born, and about a decade later, it became the first cassette single I ever owned. Those lyrics were the first I memorized word for word, and they left a lasting mark on me. The influence of Hip Hop—both personally and in the environment I grew up in—shaped my outlook and was one of the inspirations behind founding Audiomack.

I’ve seen firsthand how Hip Hop connects people across continents and generations, especially in Africa. It’s a global language that unites millions of fans and artists, sparking movements that go far beyond music. Hip Hop embodies the mission we carry at Audiomack: to create access, break barriers, and empower creators to share their voices. To me, Hip Hop is both history and future—it honors its roots while constantly pushing boundaries. My role is to help ensure that its stories, beats, and energy continue to reach and inspire the world.”
